The Square Around Forest written by Ervin Lázár is one of my favorite children’s books.

… The heroes of the story are led by Muckle Mecky from the ordinary world to the fairytale forest. Forest dwellers are all strange, different individualities who have been forced to live in a closed Forest to be themselves, because their values weren’t recognize in the ordinary world…

My magical forest something like this: smells of lavender, fig, soap and herb, roundish but boxy, higgledy-piggledy orderly, fluffy but stingy in somehow and a perfect hiding place.

Don’t need more than carved fig-bush branch, smells like cookie; knotted and felted wool yarn; found objects and –plants; preserved grass and levender and that’s it.
